Oscars

It's Oscar night, and I'm watching even though it doesn't affect me either way who wins. It's nice that people are getting awards for their ability to light a scene, but does it really change anything? I can't speak for anyone else but I have never watched a movie strictly because it was nominated for an Academy Award.

I think people watch because they want to cheer for the one movie that they have seen. Sort of feels like you've won something if the one you bought a ticket for ended up being the "best" of the year. Of course the women aren't hard to look at either..

I once watched a movie based solely upon the fact that it won an academy award. After viewing the film, I wondered what award it had earned. It also made me wonder how incredibly crappy the other films in that category must have been. Indeed, award winnings or nominations are not good indications that a film is any good.
