Messing with Tradition

They are going to move the parade, I can't believe it. For over 100 years the 4th of July parade in St. Peter has gone down Minnesota Avenue and ended at the park, which happens to be where thousands gather for chicken and beer. Now, to comply with traffic of all things, they're moving it west into a more residential spot. This happens to be big news around here.

Every town and city around here has their own weekend celebration. We have Nicollet Friendship Days, Mankato/North Mankato Fun Days, Cherry Creek Days in Cleveland, Giant Days in Le Sueur and so on and so on. St. Peter has monopolized Independence Day. It is the place to be on the 4th of July, and now people are trying to change the first thing that happens. And now it gets to be the topic of discussion in all the bars, barber shops and cafes in St. Peter. Ah, the joys of small town living.
